Quarter 2 has definitely been challenging, and the quick pace has kept me on my toes the whole time. From this, I've discovered several things I've done well in, and those that could use a little work. I can say for sure that I've improved from the first quarter, and if I set some goals, I can do even better in the next. There are some things that I still struggle with from Quarter 1, such as assignments that require consistent and long-term attention, or those with far away due dates. I will be sure to put in more effort and focus on these things in the upcoming semester. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed by how far I've come and can't wait to see how well things turn out in the future.
When I look back, the first successful thing that comes to mind is my writing. I feel as if I have improved greatly in this from the beginning of the school year, and most definitely from last year. I've warmed up to the large amount of writing done in this class, and have even come to look forward to putting my thoughts down in a unique way. In addition, I've gotten better at looking at the rubrics posted and checking off things I included in my writing, as well as adding things I forgot. This has allowed me to make sure I did everything correctly and feel more satisfied with the work I turned in.
The blog posts we have done this quarter have also helped expand my writing capacity. I am so used to writing in a professional format that I often forget how to write things casually, and doing these blog posts has allowed me to loosen my uptight manner. My constant challenge is simplifying my writing to make it flow better, but I've improved over the course of Quarter 2.
I'm also proud of the analyses that I've done of Persepolis through the group Google Docs. My critical thinking skills have developed, as has my ability to make up questions. It has always been hard for me to create analytical questions that go beyond a simple response. By practicing through this assignment, I'm now able to write questions that deeply challenge the reader.
My challenges from last quarter have remained the same- procrastination and Membean. I have tried my best to eliminate these problems, but they still persist. I always end up starting and ending assigned essays late, and barely turning them in on time. I'm so busy with other classes that it leaves hardly any time for writing essays. As the quarter went on, I became increasingly packed as the workload doubled and the stress piled on.
As a result, Membean was a little difficult to keep track of. I would often miss a day or go past 12AM, although I made sure to complete the required times. If I noticed I forgot to do Membean for a day, I knew that this was something I couldn't make up, and it was a little frustrating. I need to focus more of my attention on doing the right number of days, which I will hopefully improve in over the next quarter.
The first thing I definitely have to get better at is general time management. I have to make sure I'm making enough time to work on English and that I'm able to form sentences that actually make sense. By managing my time better, my stress will decrease significantly, which allows for more Membean focus and a better-sounding essay. This is also a big plus for my other classes. I'll be able to complete essays without worrying about the due date. Instead, I can pay more attention to the quality of my content.
